Terms & Conditions

Last updated: 15 August 2026

The rules for using Meri Janu's AI companion chat platform. Please read them before you create an account.

1. Acceptance of these Terms

By creating an account, accessing, or using Meri Janu (the "Service"), you agree to be bound by these Terms & Conditions ("Terms"), our Privacy Policy, and our Refund & Cancellation Policy, all of which are incorporated here by reference. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.

Meri Janu is owned and operated by Harshpreet Singh, trading as XCodie Technologies (Udyam Registration No. UDYAM-PB-17-0132054), a sole proprietorship based in Patiala, Punjab, India ("Company", "we", "us", "our"). Our full registered business address is Main road, Ambika Enclave, Sanaur, Patiala, Punjab 147103.

2. Eligibility & Age Requirement

The Service is strictly for adults. By creating an account you confirm, through the self-declaration you make at sign-up, that you are at least 18 years old and legally capable of entering into a binding contract under the Indian Contract Act, 1872. We do not knowingly permit anyone under 18 to use the Service.

If we discover or reasonably suspect that an account belongs to someone under 18, we will suspend the account immediately and delete the associated personal data and chat history, subject to any data we're legally required to retain.

3. Nature of the Service

Meri Janu provides text-based conversations with fictional, AI-generated companion personas for entertainment and companionship purposes only. Companions are not real people, do not have genuine thoughts or feelings, and any personality, memory, or warmth you experience is generated by a language model responding to your messages and the persona's configured traits.

The Service is not a substitute for professional mental health support, medical advice, legal advice, financial advice, or crisis intervention. If you are in distress or crisis, please contact a licensed professional or a helpline in your area — a companion persona is not equipped to help in an emergency.

Companion replies may be inaccurate, inconsistent, or occasionally out of character — they are the output of an AI model, not a verified source of fact.

4. Your Account

You're responsible for the accuracy of the information you provide at sign-up and for keeping your password confidential. You're responsible for all activity under your account, whether or not you personally performed it, except where that activity results from our own security failure.

Tell us immediately at the email in the Grievance & Contact section below if you suspect unauthorised access to your account.

One account per person. Accounts are personal and may not be sold, transferred, or shared.

5. Acceptable Use

You agree not to use the Service to:

  • Generate, request, or attempt to generate sexual content involving anyone under 18, whether real or implied — this is never permitted, has zero tolerance, and will result in immediate account termination and, where required by law, a report to the appropriate authorities.
  • Impersonate a real, identifiable person without their consent, or use the Service to harass, defame, or stalk a real person.
  • Generate content that depicts non-consensual sexual acts, extreme violence, or other content that is illegal under Indian law.
  • Attempt to bypass rate limits, credit checks, or content filters; scrape, reverse-engineer, or use bots or automation against the Service.
  • Resell, sublicense, or commercially redistribute access to companion conversations.
  • Upload malware or attempt to compromise the security of the Service or other users' accounts.

We may review flagged conversations for safety purposes (see Privacy Policy — Your Conversations With Companions) and may suspend or terminate accounts that violate this section, with or without notice, depending on severity.

6. Your Messages & Content Licence

You retain no ownership claim over the AI-generated companion replies themselves (see Intellectual Property), but the messages you type remain yours. By sending a message, you grant us a limited, worldwide, royalty-free licence to process, store, and use that message to operate, secure, and improve the Service, as described in our Privacy Policy.

7. Credits & Subscriptions

Meri Janu is offered on a free tier (daily message cap) and paid tiers: one-time credit top-ups and recurring subscriptions, as described on our Pricing page. Prices are shown in Indian Rupees (₹), inclusive of applicable taxes unless stated otherwise.

Subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each billing period until you cancel. Payments are processed by our third-party payment gateway (Razorpay); we do not store your card, UPI, or bank details ourselves. By subscribing, you authorise recurring charges until cancellation.

See our Refund & Cancellation Policy for how billing errors, cancellations, and refund-eligible situations are handled.

8. Refunds & Cancellation

Our full refund and cancellation terms are set out in the dedicated Refund & Cancellation Policy, which forms part of these Terms. In short: subscriptions can be cancelled any time and remain active until the end of the paid period; credits and subscription fees are refundable only in specific, verified situations described there — not simply because you changed your mind after using the Service normally.

9. Intellectual Property

The Service, including its software, design, companion personas, branding, logos, and the "Meri Janu" name, is owned by the Company or its licensors and protected by Indian and international intellectual property law. Nothing in these Terms grants you rights to our intellectual property beyond the limited right to use the Service as intended.

10. AI-Generated Content Disclaimer

Companion replies are generated using third-party large language model providers (see Privacy Policy — AI Providers We Use for which providers process your messages and why). We apply an automated output filter before a reply reaches you, but AI output can still occasionally be inaccurate, repetitive, or say something we'd rather it didn't. Use the in-chat "report" action on any message that seems off.

We do not guarantee that companion replies will be accurate, appropriate, or available without interruption at all times.

11. Suspension & Termination

You may stop using the Service and delete your account at any time from your dashboard (see Privacy Policy — Account Deletion). We may suspend or terminate your account, with or without notice, if you violate Acceptable Use, if required by law, or if we discontinue the Service. Sections that by their nature should survive termination — including Intellectual Property, Limitation of Liability, and Governing Law — continue to apply.

12. Disclaimers & Limitation of Liability

The Service is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement, to the fullest extent permitted by Indian law.

To the fullest extent permitted by law, the Company's total liability arising out of or relating to the Service will not exceed the total amount you paid us in the twelve (12) months before the claim arose, or ₹1,000, whichever is greater. Nothing in these Terms limits liability that cannot be limited under Indian law.

13. Indemnity

You agree to indemnify and hold the Company harmless from claims, damages, and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising from your misuse of the Service or your breach of these Terms.

14. Governing Law & Dispute Resolution

These Terms are governed by the laws of India. Subject to your rights under the Consumer Protection Act, 2019 — including the option to approach your local consumer forum or file through e-Daakhil — the courts at Patiala, Punjab will have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute arising from these Terms or your use of the Service.

Before initiating any formal proceeding, please contact us at the email in the Grievance & Contact section below — most concerns can be resolved directly.

15. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time to reflect changes to the Service or applicable law. We'll post the updated version here with a new "last updated" date, and for material changes we'll make reasonable efforts to notify active users (e.g. by email or an in-app notice). Continued use of the Service after an update means you accept the revised Terms.
